In the city of Athens the Institute of Agricultural Sciences provides an intensive seminar of 80 hours on “Organic Animal Husbandry”. The seminar can be attended by every citizen that wants to learn about this subject, but it is foremost meant for young people who want to get involved in the agricultural sector. The curriculum encompasses twenty lectures of four hours duration each that take place once a week. The seminar starts with an introduction about organic animal husbandry in Greece and in the world in general. It continues with the definition, general principles and regulations of organic animal husbandry. It gives knowledge about the methodology used for choosing the livestock, about the nutrition, housing, health and safety of animals. It finally concludes by giving information about financial incentives. The cost of the seminar is 110 euro.

The institute also provides a seminar of 120 hours on “Organic Crop Cultivation”. The seminar can be followed by every citizen who wants to learn about this subject, but it is mainly meant for young people who want to get involved in the agricultural sector. The curriculum contains thirty lectures of four hours duration each that take place twice a week. The course starts with an introduction about organic farming in Greece and in the world in general. It continues with the definition, general principles and regulations of organic crop cultivation. It gives knowledge about soil management, cultivation techniques, biological control of pests and diseases, post harvest handling, registration and marketing of biological products. It finally concludes by giving information about financial incentives. The fee for the seminar is 180 euro.

The institute also provides courses and seminars as well as conferences and workshops about other subjects in conventional agriculture, e.g. apiculture, snails’ farming, mushrooms’ cultivation etc.
